Triathlon Team

Team captains were selected at the SCC annual meeting on January February 21st.  Neil Farmer is the captain for 2013.  We're looking forward to a good first year from this team.  Most of the members have some race experience race.  We'll use this experience to help develop those athletes that may not have competed before.  As the weather improves we'll be posting training sessions of the SCC calendar.  Please try to attend as many of these as possible.  If you'd like to be a member of the triathlon team please e-mail Neil at secretary@bikescc.org.

Neil is looking forward to open water swim sessions, drafting and non-drafting bike rides, speed training for the run, and working through the finer points of a smooth and efficient transition.  So, get your training plans ready, identify your A, B, and C races for the year, and get going.

Augusta 70.3 Training Plan

20 Week Augusta 70.3 Training Plan Chart
With the 2012 Peachtree City Triathlon behind us and the 2012 Augusta 70.3 race on September 30th is only weeks away it's time to refocus our training.  We've created an intermediate level 20 week training plan for members to use as they prepare for this, our most important triathlon of the year. The plan creates stair-steps of increasing training broken by periods of recovery and taper as can be seen in the chart.  As with any training plan, it should be used as a guide to help you prepare for the race.  If training is missed, don't sweat it.  Remember, it's better to be 10% under-trained than 10% over-trained.  The Augusta 70.3 is a wave start with an easy river swim downstream with the current.  Sighting is not an issue with this swim course as the river's edge is easy to follow all the way to the boat ramp exit at the transition area.  Weeds in the river might be the only hazard for swimmers.  Emphasis should be put on the run segment as this is the area where SCC members should see the most benefit.  Download the plan here.
