The month of May brings Southern Crescent Cycling members several fun and challenging events. First there is the 3 State 3 Mountain Challenge in Chattanooga, TN on Saturday, May 5th. This ride has four mileage option, 100, 90, 62 and 25. That's something for everybody. Dr. Peto Fallas is the club leader for this event. A week later we have the Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) Race to the Finish Line in Hampton, GA on Saturday, May 12th to benefit the Speedway Children's Charities. This event includes a 1 mile fun run, 5K and 10K foot race, and a 35 and 63 mile bike ride. The foot races start at 8am. The bike rides start at 10am. The Run for the Finish Line is on our "home turf" so we're expecting good member participation. This is also when the we'll try to announce the winner of the SCC Sexy Legs Contest. Register by 6pm on Wednesday, May 2nd to be guaranteed a t-shirt. The following weekend brings us the popular Peachtree City Int'l Triathlon and Super Sprint Triathlon in Peachtree City, GA on Saturday, May 19th. To participants each rider must raise $200 for the American Diabetes Association. These fund go to support diabetes research and programs. Derek Smith is the club leader for this event. Use promo code "atl10" and "Team Southern Crescent Cycling" when registering. So, there you have it! May is full of challenging and competitive races and charity rides. Choose one, two, three, or all four...you'll be glad you did! In addition to the club sanctioned events above, SCC road and track team members have the opportunity to show their muscle during the Sandy Springs Cycling Challenge in Sandy Springs on Sunday, May 6th and the Gainesville Criterium in Gainesville on Saturday, May 12th. The popular Roswell Criterium is scheduled for April 29th. The Dick Lane Velodrome in East Point, GA has the Super Saturday race scheduled for Saturday, May 5th from 2pm to 5pm and Pro Race Series "The Keirin" on Friday, May 11th from 7pm to 9pm and Saturday, May 12th from 3pm to 9pm. Club leaders help promote the event by encouraging other members to participate, act as a point-of-contact for meet-ups and carpooling, help haul equipment when needed, take pictures (if they've got a camera), and provide some feedback to the club after the event. This is especially important when we have members competing. Don't forget the club group rides Monday through Thursday at 6:15pm. Check the calendar for details. |
Monday Novice Ride Leaders
SCC is setting up a Novice Ride Leader schedule for the remainder of the year. There are 24 Monday’s between now and the first week in October when organized group rides will conclude. We will give any Ride Leader that commits to leading at least 2 Novice rides during the season a free SCC Ride Leader t-shirt. Keep in mind you are not limited to 2 Novice rides, if you want to do more that would be great! Also, note that it will be your responsibility to find a replacement ride leader if you can not make your scheduled ride. See the dates below and respond via e-mail to secretary@bikescc.org with the dates when you can volunteer.
